School of Webcraft #3 When the HTML student is ready the editor will come.

I have chose NPP or Notepad Plus Plus as text editor at work and Sublime Text 2 at home. I like Notepadd plus plus because

  1. It is free
  2. It has nice colors for tags reminding me if they are not closed
  3. It has tons of addons

These are my general impressions of Sublime Text 2 also but it has a few more things

  1. Bruce Lee is quoted in it documentation which is rather thin right now.
  2. It has a over of the entire file in tiny preview window on the right side which I anticipate will be pretty useful when I write those huge pages.
  3. It has an python interpretor embedded within to test creation of api's within it.
  4. It is more mysterious.

School of Webcraft - Item #1 - 4 - Talking on the journey

There is a wonderful set of stories called the Canterbury tales that I've heard of in which a random group of traveller in Ye Merry Olde England went on a journey. As they walked together they told each other stories which the author Chauncer recounts to us.

Comments on blogs are like that and here are 2. The first is on bryzer112's blog and he seems to be doing something ambitious - a playbook app.

The second for Marco and asvhtml on asvhtmls blog is a blessing.

Not WebCraft Related

Just wanted to check how this thing of sending a post via email would work. It works beautifully.
Why is Bold font so commonly regarded as shouting in e communication?. Check
So what emotion is conveyed by Italic font? Doubt, uncertainty or cautious statement with question mark.  Check
Underline is so strange. Can we say it means I know this to be true and I want you to know it but I am decent enough not to shout out about it. check
Fonts are always emotional. See Garamond and even the name suggests faraway England or France.  Le Monde.  Change font to Garamond and make it huge.
Now the bane of all web pages. Children playing with color. At least mute it.
What is highlight color and why give the author a chance to shame herself.

The image is too huge and I cannot insert a new line to make it come after the 6 symbols.

Here is a P2PU link.

  1. Leader as Chair
  2. Leader as Spokesperson
  3. Leader as Facilitator
  4. Leader as Epitome
    • Venkatesh Rao the Author of Tempo has a different take on the taxonomy of leader ship which is harsh but semi-realistic.
So we come to the end of this test post.

School of Webcraft - Item #1 - 2 - the path so far

Here I wish to state that I am doing the School of Webcraft course simply to keep myself uncomfortable. The reason is that I need to try and find out how much I don't know so that I can be unhappy about what I know.

Not that being unhappy is something precious. Not at all. Perhaps the right word to use was "creative dissatisfaction" but that seemed to long and pretentious to use.

I really admire the new dyanic Web 2.0 or is it Web 3.0 stuff that has crept up on me unawares and only recently since I started lurking on hacker news did I even know this stuff existed. I was further excited by the chance download of the Mozilla - Learning Freedom and the Web book (too lazy for the link).

The book is beautiful to look at but what really fired me was the tool called X-Ray Googles from hackosaurus.

I keep hearing the word mashup but till I saw hackosaurus I just did not get the simple elegance of it. In fact as my child has christmas holidays just now the first thing I did when I got home yesterday was to teach her to mashup her school page inspite of here uneasiness.

The last step on the journey to School of Webcraft is through this page from Dougald Hine who is a great inspiration for me. His list of people led me this bio which had a link to the school of Webcraft course in P2PU's website. I used to be a member and have received email but the site has changed a lot since I last came here.

Thank you P2PU and everyone else.
